What I Do



I am a Lecturer in Dundalk Institute of Technology whose primary areas of interest include Web Development; The Creative Industries; Research; Moving Image; AR/VR



I have a Ph.D. in Alternate Reality Games and their educational value. My research interests vary from the Creative Industries to precarity, to learning and teaching (blended mode).



I create, design, and develop graphic, audio-visual or web-based projects. From idea generation through to the final product, I produce high quality work.



I have strong networking skills. With 15+ years experience across multiple disciplines, I can make the right connections across a number sporting, academic, and professional domains.

  • As Programme Convenor, I oversee the management, quality, and development of my programme. I also offer advice to academic and admin staff as well as students.
  • As a Lecturer I have diligently prepared, created, and implemented lectures, labs, and tutorials to Level 7 and Level 8 students. I have liaised with lecturers in the creation and grading of assessments, administration, and dealing with matters arising.
  • I participate in committees within the School of Informatics & Creative Arts, including External Engagement, and Institutional Review (both for Programmatic Review).
  • I have been actively involved in a number of (approved) Springboard applications.

I currently work as a Lecturer in DkIT in the Department of Visual & Human-Centred Computing, which is based in the School of Informatics & Creative Arts.

I am also Programme Convenor on the Certificate in Entrepreneurship in the Creative Industries programme. Furthermore, I am School Liaison Officer within my Department promoting our programmes to prospective students.

Media Consultant

STATSports, Newry, Co. Down

My consultancy role involves working with the media team in the promotion of the company brand. I have been involved with recruitment initiatives, including work placement for DkIT students and other full-time employees. More recently, I have been involved in the development of a H2020 application.

Recruitment and Retention Officer

Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT)

I oversaw the operations of the IT Learning Centre (ITLC), facilitating the coding requests of students. I provided a supportive role for students who were struggling to settle into DkIT, or who were experiencing other stresses. I promoted DkIT to 2nd level students at school visits, Higher Options and UCAS events. I played an integral part in the organisation and running of Open Day, Induction Week, Transition Year Week, and other recruitment and retention-related initiatives.

PRO & IT Officer

Naomh Malachi, Louth GAA, Leinster GAA, Croke Park

As Naomh Malachi PRO, I have produced a number of media artefacts including: the 40th Anniversary (2006) and A Decade to Remember (2009) booklets, and a 132-minute 50th Anniversary documentary, titled Caoga (2016). As Louth GAA PRO, I created hundreds of digital works, and liaised with local and national press, media, broadcasters, photographers, and videographers as well as thousands of supporters in the promotion of Gaelic Games. My role as IT Officer has resulted in engaging with GAA personnel around the county and country, tending to a wide range of IT-related issues.

Manufacturing Technician / Training Coordinator

Intel Ireland & US

As a technician, I worked in the C4 Lithography area of the manufacturing process. As a training coordinator, I ensured that adequate training was in place for all staff. Recognised as being ‘The Best of the Best’, which led to a 15-month training program in the US, with other training in Albuquerque, Burlington, Portland, and San Jose.

MA Learning and Teaching

I am currently undertaking a Masters in Learning and Teaching in DkIT. The programme aims to deepen the understanding of learner-centred approaches to teaching and assessment; to develop and improve the quality of learning and teaching through self-reflection and self-assessment; to support and develop and continuing professional development of staff; and to build a practitioner-based community of teachers and researchers within the domain.

Ph.D. (Research) in Computing

Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT)

I completed my Ph.D. at DkIT under the supervision of Dr Bride Mallon, Dr Cornelia Connolly, and Mr Kieran Nolan in the area of Alternate Reality Games (ARGs) and education. Having begun initially on a Masters programme in October 2010, I transferred to the Ph.D. register in October 2012 before successfully defending my viva in July 2015. I have published extensively in the area of ARGs.

BA (Hons) in Communications in Creative Media

Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT)

I completed my BA (Hons) in Communications in Creative Media in DkIT, graduating with a 1:1 Distinction award. In my final year, I was co-creator of Aftermath08, a hugely successful ARG that played out over 6 weeks both online and in the real world. The game received notable recognition exhibiting at The Digital Hub (Dublin), and receiving a Seal of Approval from Europrix (Graz, Austria).

My final year modules consisted of: Current Issues & Theories in the Creative Industries; Media and Society; User Theories; Entrepreneurship; Multimedia Final Project; Digital Editing; eLearning; Research (Dissertation). My dissertation topic focused on the use of technology within the GAA.

Sep 2004 – June 2007

BA in Communications in Creative Media

I completed my BA in Communications in Creative Media in DkIT, graduating with a 1:1 Distinction award. In the final (3rd) year, I was co-creator of Tactical Control Force (TCF), a hugely successful interactive game that challenged players to prevent three bombs exploding across Ireland on the one day. The game received notable recognition exhibiting at The Digital Hub (Dublin).

My final year modules consisted of: Web Applications; From Fiction to Film; Distributive Multimedia; Human & Cognitive Challenges in an Information Society; Culture, Society, and Creative Media; Multimedia Practical Project Development; Public Relations.
